Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has disbursed subsidized fertilizer and maize seeds worth Ksh. 700 Million to farmers across the 60 Wards. While launching the exercise, in East Kabras Ward in Malava Sub County as part of his engagement to cushion farmers from high prices of the said commodities, the county chief gave out 29,000 bags of fertilizer worth Ksh. 86 Million to farmers besides Ksh. 5 Million for fingerlings and Ksh. 11 million for fish feeds, stating that Malava had received a huge share owing to its large population.
“I want to thank our partners for bringing in the fingerlings as this will go a long way in value addition and more food to the households. Governor Barasa observed that he was keen on assisting the sub-county owing to its political stand and vowed to work with all the sub-county Mcas and even area Mp Malulu Injendi despite their political affiliations noting that it was time for development.
“My number one agenda is health and water for all and it is on his note that I have issued Ksh.15Million of drugs to Malava level four hospital, the first ever largest barge of drugs to be issued there since inception,” On education matters the governor revealed that through the county executive committee member (CECM) education Ruth Owuor, the East Kabras Ward will be awarded a county polytechnic following the request by the area MCA Kefa Musiya who expressed the need to have a county learning institution within, to teach various technical skills to the youths- Governor Fernandes Barasa
“I want to assure you that we are committed to bringing the much needed development to the people as it is our core mandate. That is why we were elected into office, service delivery will be my core duty to all and sundry within the county.” He also pointed out that in his memorandum, which he brought to Malava during the campaigns will be implemented and he will ensure that all the programmes are included in the county integrated development plan (CIDP) ready to be worked on starting next year after the budget.

“I’m hell bend to bring development to the people so that after five years, they will be able to gauge and rate my development record and see if I’m fit to be reelected for the second term or not but I’m sure my track record will speak for itself when that time comes calling”
The governor also assured the women and youths that Kazi Mashinani will be re-introduced starting next month. “This is going to be a one year contract where each ward will produce 50 people to work and a total 3000 women and youths will be contracted for these jobs”.
He said he was concerned with the completion of the dairy and promised to ensure that it is up and running before he leaves office. “I have chosen the dairy chairman from Malava because I want the Malava people to feel they own the factory and I will ensure that that dairy is working and of economic importance to the locals and county as a whole”
He further promised to reward each Ward within the sub-county with a tarmac road annually as part of development. He warned against brokers coming into the sub-county to purchase the fertilizer repackage and resale at abnormal prices.
“We have brought DAP which is going at Ksh.1,485 for 25kg and Ksh.2,970 for the 50 kg as the top dressing one which will be available starting next week will be costing at Ksh.1,165 and Ksh.2,330 for 25 and 50 Kgs respectively while a 2kg Maize seedlings to cost Ksh.300.” “I want you to plant and have plenty of food so that by th next election period the population of Malava should be over 150,000 people.”
He lauded President William Ruto’s stand to put the country in a prayer mode noting that God had heard their prayers and brought the rains and further hailed his staunch in opposing the supreme court ruling to legalize same-sex marriages (LGBTQ) and warned the residents within the county to desist from such devious behaviour as stern action will be taken to curb the devilish vice.
He called on the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) members to understand that health was a devolved function and that their idea to revert to the national government was null and void at all costs as their funds were already devolved. “I wish to tell the union members that in accordance with schedule four of our constitution, our president is committed to devolving all the functions in the near future, already 95 of national functions is devolved.”
He was accompanied by MCAs Kevin Mahelo David Ndakwa, Peter Wanami Kefa Musiya, and Geoffrey Sikolia among county CECM.
