Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Wednesday made an impromptu working tour of the Suam One Border Post. The governor said the border post’s completion needs to be speeded up to boost trade in the region, adding that members of the business community were facing frustrations.

He said frustrations faced by business people in the area will be a thing of the past once the ongoing negotiations between the County government and the National government over the acquisition of more than 100 acres of land for the construction of a trading centre are over.

“We already have 21 acres of land which is insuffient in housing the many traders here. Negotiations are ongoing to acquire 100 acres of land to enable our traders get a conducive atmosphere to work from “, said the Governor.  The Governor raised concern over the slow pace to complete the ongoing project that was expected to be operational by end of 2021.

The County Governor later inspected the ongoing Ksh. 1.2 billion Kaptega Water Project is expected to serve around 9 locations in both Endebess and Kwanza Sub counties.  He asked for speedy completion of the Project which he noted will bring to an end the perennial water shortage which had brought suffering to the people in the two Sub counties.   Other water projects among them the Kiptogot- Kolongolo, he said upon completion will help serve the more than 1 million residents of Trans Nzoia. He also paid a visit to Anderson Vocational Training Centre where he pledged to prioritize the timely disbursement of Capitation funds to enable the trainees to realize their potential

A representative for the male entrepreneur Cosmas Wabomba asked for the intervention of the governor in planting maize in the forests to make the community self-reliant.

The Governor said he will initiate talks with the National government since “Forests are not devolved. “This Forest belongs to the National government; we will want to talk to the President. I’m shocked that you don’t have amenities like toilets here”, he said. “It is true that the National government did slam brakes on planting of maize in forests. We will expect you to be responsible by reciprocating the government’s acceptance to rescind its earlier decision and help plant trees to increase the forest cover”, he said.

He said upon completion of studies the trainees will be offered startups to venture into business said will transform their livelihoods.  The Governor further defended the CBC module of education which he noted was a yardstick for empowering the youths through technology.

He pledged to have learners in automotive training get access to some of the vehicles that had broken down in various departments of the County government.  He challenged learners to put more focus on upholstery and other courses that will help them get a quick market for their products.  He said the youths would benefit if they became proactive, especially by using Agbo. The County boss who winded up his education tour at Cherubai Primary school pledged to have a borehole fully equipped with solar panels constructed.

He said the Early Childhood Education will be expanded with more classes, and desks put up.  ” I have come here with 100 bags of Cement to help build an extra ECDE Centre. A toilet for girls and an administration block will be put up”, he said.  Chepchoina Ward representative Peter Chakali pledged his support to the governor in ensuring that his development agenda is a success story.  ” I will support the Governor to realize his dream of bringing back Trans Nzoia County to its glory that had dimmed. Governor let this institution realize a facelift through enhancement of bursary allocation “, he said.

Political Advisor Joshua Werunga said the development projects being initiated by the governor will bring rapid change.  ” We will give you a 10 year’s  uninterrupted period in office without a break.  We have to make this County better than it was left after a misrule of 10 years”, he said.  Education CECM Julia Ruto Kichwen said the future of the learners is solely dependent on education and pledged her department’s support to help the youths do better.

The Governor was accompanied by the County Secretary Madam Truphosa Amere,  CECM’s Patrick Gacheru ( Water and Environment), Samson Ojwang ( Public Service Management), Boniface Wanyonyi ( Finance and Economic Planning)   Dr Pepela Wanjala( Health), Phanice Khatundi ( Agriculture), Chanelle Kittony ( Youths and Sports).  Chief Officers Sammy Sichangi, Chief of staff Dickson Wamocho and other departmental heads.
