Muslim leaders have warned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagwa against his recent reckless allegations that the Muslim community gave the Kenya Kwanza government few votes. Mr Gachagua claimed that the Muslim community abandoned William Ruto despite having done a lot for them. He claimed that if they don’t support Ruto in 2027, they will not benefit from his government.
A close analysis of the 2022 presidential election results reveals that the Muslim-dominated counties voted overwhelmingly for Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga. In Mombasa County, Raila Odinga got 58%, Kwale (70%), Kilifi (71%), Tana River (54%), Lamu (52%) and Taita Taveta (72%). Other Muslim-dominated counties in the North Eastern region also voted overwhelmingly for Raila Odinga with Garissa at 74%, Wajir (at 62%), Mandera (78%), Marsabit (48%) and Isiolo (at 44%).

He went on to lament “He has been near you, but when he needed help, you limited it for him. We say thank you for the few votes you gave us, but we were a bit hurt because the one you gave much (Raila Odinga) has no history of building even a single mosque. He has not built even a single classroom. He has not even built a school or helped you”.
