Kenya Airways And Air India Expand Partnership With New Codeshare Agreement

Kenya Airways has solidified its commitment to enhancing seamless travel between India and Africa, and beyond, by entering into a new codeshare partnership with Air India. This agreement builds on their existing interline arrangement, broadening connectivity for passengers and offering a more streamlined travel experience.

Together, the codeshare and interline partnerships enable passengers of both airlines to access a broader selection of destinations, all with the convenience of a single ticket and a unified baggage policy. This ensures a smoother and more hassle-free travel experience across regions.

As part of the new codeshare agreement, Air India will add its ‘AI’ designator code on Kenya Airways’ twice-daily flights between Nairobi and Mumbai. This will provide seamless connections via Mumbai for Air India-operated flights to and from key destinations such as Bangkok (Thailand), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Malé (The Maldives), Melbourne (Australia), and Singapore. Nairobi passengers will also benefit from enhanced connections to other Indian cities via Delhi, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata.

Similarly, Kenya Airways will place its ‘KQ’ designator code on Air India-operated flights between Delhi and Nairobi, offering passengers from across Africa easier access to Delhi via Nairobi.

“Deepening our partnership with Kenya Airways aligns perfectly with Air India’s strategic vision of expanding our global footprint and strengthening our position in key markets,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India. “Our codeshare partnership will not only benefit passengers of both airlines but also contribute to the growth of air travel between India and Africa.”

In addition, the interline agreement allows seamless travel on a single itinerary between 28 destinations in Africa—such as Accra, Addis Ababa, Dar es Salaam, and Cape Town—and 15 destinations in India, including Delhi, Goa, Kochi, and Hyderabad.

“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Air India, which will open up significant opportunities for our passengers. This codeshare agreement makes it easier for them to connect to a wider range of destinations across both airlines’ networks,” said Julius Thairu, Chief Commercial and Customer Officer at Kenya Airways.

Both airlines plan to progressively add more destinations to their codeshare agreement, offering even greater options for travellers. The codeshare flights are now available for booking through both airlines’ booking platforms and travel agents.
