Perpetual Muthoni Mbutu of Kenya has been appointed Deputy Secretary General of World Kabaddi, marking a notable achievement for the country and continent.

Her nomination was proposed by World Kabaddi Secretary General S. T. Arasu and unanimously endorsed by the organisation’s Central Board during an online meeting held earlier today.

Muthoni, currently an African representative on the World Kabaddi Central Board, will have her board position filled later. She also directs competitions for the Kenya Kabaddi Sports Federation and Africa Kabaddi Confederation.

A former Kabaddi player herself, Muthoni is the founder of the Kenya National Police Service Kabaddi team, which has played a key role in promoting the sport within the disciplined forces. Her new global role will see her take a more active part in the day-to-day management and development of the federation’s activities.

The 39-year-old from Kirinyaga County works with Kenya’s National Police Service. She also coaches Utawala Stars Sprints Club and participates in Kho Kho, Tchoukball, and Cricket.

Her passion for youth empowerment and belief in sports as a transformative tool for social change have earned her widespread recognition. Her appointment to the top leadership of World Kabaddi is expected to strengthen Africa’s representation and promote inclusivity within the global sports body.
