MDG Party Urges IEBC to Curb Violence in Upcoming By-Elections

The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) Party has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to strictly enforce the electoral code of conduct and guarantee a peaceful environment during the forthcoming by-elections.

MDG Party Leader David Ochieng warned that the recent incidents of violence witnessed during party primaries across the country pose a serious threat to democracy.

He called on the IEBC to stamp its authority and ensure that all participants uphold the principles of free, fair, and credible elections.

Speaking at the party headquarters on Thursday, during the unveiling and presentation of nomination certificates to MDG candidates Collins Okeyo Omondi (Kasipul Constituency) and Joel Ongoro Otuoma (Kisa East Ward), Ochieng emphasised the party’s firm stance against violence.

“As a party, we abhor violence and implore all those contesting in the by-elections to conduct themselves with respect, uphold the law, and show tolerance,” Ochieng said.

He added: “We also urge the IEBC to take decisive action against candidates who use violence to intimidate opponents.” Kasipul parliamentary candidate Collins Okeyo cautioned his rivals against perpetrating violence, reminding them of Kasipul’s troubled history of election-related chaos. He appealed to constituents to embrace peace and vote for leaders of integrity, pledging to be a worthy representative of the people.
