Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on Members of Parliament from the Western region to prioritise unity for the sake of regional development. Speaking at Shamakhokho Grounds in Hamisi Constituency on Saturday, Mudavadi, alongside National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, urged MPs in attendance to rally behind President William Ruto in support of his bid for a second term in office.
The two leaders were attending an empowerment and fundraising event for umbrella groups, hosted by Vihiga Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala. “We came here, set the pace, and have seen the outcomes. We spoke about the political earthquake,” said Mudavadi. “The Speaker and I are not in the business of misleading our people. Therefore, listen carefully, we have been in politics for many years and we are forming a coalition with President Ruto.”
Acknowledging the country’s high cost of living, Mudavadi noted that true leadership involves having a clear vision and direction.
“We are telling you, this is the way. Ruto defeated all his opponents in the last General Election while operating outside their coalition. Despite all the odds being in their favour, he beat them. He is here to stay, to lead the government with Speaker Wetang’ula,” he asserted.
Mudavadi further cautioned residents against being misled by other presidential hopefuls, likening them to shifting winds with no real substance. He said the current government, formed by MPs allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), was focused on delivering tangible results.
He also highlighted recent developments in Cabinet, stating that a resolution had been passed regarding long-standing land issues in Vihiga County. According to Mudavadi, residents of Shiru and Shaviringa areas, who have lived without title deeds for over 40 years, will now be granted ownership documents, having surrendered their land to the government in earlier years.
“This matter will reach the Speaker in Parliament. Having served in Parliament, I can assure you that the Speaker is a respected referee and will treat the issue with the seriousness it deserves,” Mudavadi said.
He urged Western Kenya residents to avoid divisive politics, emphasising that the government’s focus is on progress and honest leadership.
“We are halfway through our term in office. In two and a half years, Kenya will once again head to the polls. Meanwhile, the opposition continues to make noise while our economy has faced challenges,” he remarked.
Despite the economic hardships, Mudavadi affirmed that Kenya remains the sixth-largest economy in Africa and expressed confidence in the government’s plans to boost youth employment and support business growth.
“Good things don’t come easily; we have to work for them. We are working and will ensure Kenyans enjoy the benefits of our efforts,” he added.
He concluded by urging the people of Western Kenya to unite behind President William Ruto and avoid political malice.
