PS Omolo Affirms Exam Integrity as National Tests Proceed Smoothly

By The Weekly Vision

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the integrity and smooth administration of this year’s national examinations, which are underway across the country.

Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omolo, speaking on Wednesday morning while supervising the opening of an examination container and distribution of papers at the Starehe Deputy County Commissioner’s office, lauded the seamless coordination among government agencies tasked with managing the exercise. “We have not had any major incidents since the exams started, and this is because of the good coordination,” Dr Omolo said. He added that the Ministry of Interior has been working closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure adequate security and logistical support throughout the examination period.

According to the Ministry of Interior, more than 600 containers nationwide are under tight surveillance to guarantee the safe storage and timely delivery of examination materials.

Dr Omolo noted that the ongoing short rains had posed logistical challenges in some regions but assured that the integrity of the examinations would not be compromised. “We had a case in Tana River where floods disrupted access, but it was quickly resolved. We will ensure that exams reach every centre on time,” he said.

To strengthen oversight, the Ministry announced plans to establish a national command centre at the sub-county level to enable real-time monitoring and swift response to any emerging issues. “We shall use this system to identify gaps. In previous instances, we’ve had early exposure of materials, but we are ensuring such cases are managed effectively. We are working with the Ministry of ICT to take immediate action whenever needed,” he stated.

Dr Omolo also issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to leak examination materials or defraud parents online. “We have a team monitoring social media for anyone collecting money from unsuspecting parents, teachers, or students. Where we find breaches, we will act firmly,” he cautioned.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) concludes today, while the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) continue nationwide under heightened security.
