Uhuru’s Jubilee Supports Opposition Candidate in Mbeere North

“Those attempting to sow division and confusion will not succeed. It is important to clarify that a few individuals, who are not even party officials, have been masquerading as spokespersons for Jubilee, spreading misinformation, attacking leaders within the united opposition, and even suggesting that they are above the direction of the party leader. Their views are personal and do not represent the position of the Jubilee Party. Their mission is known, and so are their sponsors,” said Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge

Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge has defended the party’s decision not to field a candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, saying the move was made by Party Leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta to support the joint opposition candidate, Newton Karish of the Democratic Party, in a show of opposition unity.

“This is a reminder that leadership guided by foresight always sees beyond the immediate horizon. President Kenyatta continues to demonstrate statesmanship and long-term vision, one that transcends short-term politics and focuses on the broader future of our country. His support for unity within the opposition is not just tactical; it is strategic, rooted in the understanding that our collective strength lies in solidarity,” Ms Njoroge wrote on her Facebook page.

She added that well-meaning party officials and members, including former Interior Cabinet Secretary and 2027 presidential hopeful Dr Fred Matiang’i, are fully aligned with this vision, ensuring that the opposition speaks with one clear, coherent voice as it moves towards the next General Election.

“Those attempting to sow division and confusion will not succeed. It is important to clarify that a few individuals who are not even party officials have been masquerading as spokespersons for Jubilee, spreading misinformation, attacking leaders within the united opposition, and even suggesting that they are above the party leader’s direction. Their views are personal and do not represent the position of the Jubilee Party. Their mission is known, and their sponsors are known,” she said.

“The rest of us remain steadfast, united in mind and spirit under the leadership of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, committed to advancing a common opposition agenda that serves Kenya’s best interests,” Ms Njoroge added.

The move by the Jubilee Party saw Jacob Ireri Mbao, who had been seeking its ticket, shift his allegiance to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). According to reports, Mr Mbao met with Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku to indicate his defection.

The mini-poll has evolved into a three-horse race between Newton Karish of the Democratic Party, Leo Muriuki Muthende of UDA, and Duncan Mbui of Chama Cha Kazi, which is associated with former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria.

Mr Mbui had initially planned to vie on the ticket of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) but defected after the party withdrew from the race following protests from DCP leader Justin Muturi.
