Legislators from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance have criticized the composition of a list of the newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries by President William Ruto asserting that majority of them are of questionable integrity thus making them ineligible to spearhead the ministries they have been nominated to.
Led by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, the legislators now claim that the suggested candidates have been linked to graft cases in the recent past. “In an economy that is crying for revival, it is shocking that the UDA administration has packed the proposed Cabinet with men and women who should be in jail for engaging in economic crimes and sabotage of the country,” said the MPs.
“Most of the nominees suffer an acute financial and ethical deficit which the appointing authority is aware of but chose to ignore in nominating them because, it would appear, in this administration, ethics and accountability won’t matter.”
The Azimio MPs made it clear to Kenyans that if the nominated Cabinet Secretaries pass the vetting process, then tougher times wait ahead but they however promised to make it hard for them by airing the aforementioned concerns during the vetting process.
“Our initial take, however, is that Kenyans should prepare themselves for very difficult times ahead but they must know that there are a lot of questions about some of the said individuals and we will be asking those questions relentlessly.” If the legislators manage to discredit any of the nominated cabinet secretaries during the vetting process President Ruto will have no choice but to pick other candidates who will also be gauged.
