The management of Friends Malava primary school in Kakamega North led by the institution’s board of management (BOM) chairman Aggrey Busiega has lauded the continued support the institution has been receiving from a re-known motor company. The school is located in Mugai Shirugu Ward within Kakamega North Sub County
The school has been earmarked by the Isuzu East Africa Company which has been launching various projects within the school for the last nine years. Speaking during the handing over ceremony of modern washrooms for the special unit pupils at the school, Mr Busiega observed that the company had cemented a lasting working relationship with the school that has seen it benefit from the company’s corporate social responsibilities gestures.
“We are very thankful for Isuzu for coming here today to hand over a modern ablution block for our special needs learners and this will go a long way in assisting them as they were experiencing challenges accessing the normal washrooms, this has taken almost a year and true to their word they have come over to officially hand them to us.
This is not the first project as they have also donated water tanks, learning among other assistive equipment to the special unit over the years.” The parents association led by its chairman Boniface Chrispo also appreciated the good work the motor company was doing at the school noting that they were also committed in ensuring that those with sewing skills are provided with machines to start exploring their talents noting it was one way of empowering them once they step in the outside world.
The school head teacher Caleb Sichenga said it was a big privilege for his school to be considered as a beneficiary considering there were many schools within the area. He pointed out that the foundation stone laid by the management of the motor company for the commencement of a resource center at the school was the biggest milestone as it will encompass a library, computers and a section for indoor games and play station among others that will not only enlighten the livelihood of the pupils from the school but also others.
With the completion of the resource center the face of the school is bound to change completely and we will have more pupils coming to our school to enroll with us so as to enjoy the services, and our pupils will have an opportunity to learn more and explore further in matters of education.”
Speaking during the ceremony, Isuzu East Africa Human resource manager Fred Wasike, assured the school management that the company was committed to uplift the learning standards of the school considering it is among the long existing schools that started way back in 1915 by the missionaries.
‘This is an old school and we felt that it deserved some uplifting considering the number of pupils who have gone through it attaining education since inception and we have been trying to assist them in whichever little way we can to make the learning environment at this school conducive for every learner.
Our latest pledge to put up a working resource center is aimed at cultivating the reading culture not only in schools but also the local community as an educated society is an enlightened one, let us embrace the passion of reading learning researching that will be comfortably be found at the center once its operational in the near future, this is going to be the first resource center in the region and will turn around the lives of school learners and all those who will make use of it.
As a company, we will continue to partner with schools to improve on the education sector and promote learning to the next level step by step”.
