President William Ruto has been asked to speed up investigations of the Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif who was shot dead in Kenya Sunday night. Pakistani Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter saying that he had spoken with President William Ruto on the gruesome murder of the journalist.
“Just had a telephonic call with Kenyan President William Ruto about the tragic death of Arshad Sharif in Kenya,” he wrote. Further, he revealed that he had urged Dr Ruto to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the incident which he called shocking. “I requested him to ensure fair & transparent investigation into the shocking incident. He promised all-out help including fast-tracking the process of return of the body to Pakistan.”
According to a police statement issued on Monday, Sharif was being driven by his brother Khurram Ahmed when they went past a police roadblock along the Kiserian-Magadi road before a GSU officer opened fire killing him on the spot.
“It was reported to Magadi police station vide OB 14/23/10/2022 at 22.00hrs that along Kuenia farm/ Kamukuru marram a shooting incident involving GSU officers had occurred and one Pakistan national namely Arshad Mohammed Shariff aged 50 years had been fatally shot while he was been driven in a motor vehicle registration number KDG 200M along that road when the deceased and his brother Khurram Ahmed were driving back to Nairobi,” reads the police report. Police have since said that the case was a matter of “mistaken identity”.
