The Weekly Vision has established that the management of Vihiga High School acknowledged receipt of only Ksh. 3,020,000 while Ikumba Secondary School received Ksh.406, 000, leading to unexplained variances of Ksh. 410,000 for Vihiga High School and Ksh.394, 000 for Ikumba Secondary School, all totalling Ksh. 804,000
Vihiga MP Hon. Ernest Kivai Ogesi is under pressure to explain how bursary funds to secondary schools totalling to Ksh13, 987,618 was spent. Investigations reveal that out of the Ksh.13, 987,618 disbursed to several secondary schools, Ksh.3, 430,000 was disbursed to Vihiga High School and Ksh.800, 000 to Ikumba Secondary School.
Consequently, the accuracy of the expenditure of Ksh. 804,000 remains a mystery as the management committee is yet to explain the whereabouts of the missing money. The NGCDF committee further spent Ksh.1, 200,000 on Mahanga primary school for the construction of two classrooms. Investigations however reveal that the contractor was hand-picked and no procurement process was conducted.
Investigations further reveal that a physical verification carried out in March, 2021 showed that the floor was poorly done and the walls of the classrooms had developed cracks. It is therefore wise to conclude that residents of Vihiga Constituency did not get value for money and the lives of the students are at risk.
