The plot to have Ruth Odinga deputize Prof. Anynag’ Nyongo and later succeed him as governor was then shelved after intelligence reports indicated that if Nyong’o dropped his deputy Owili then there will be a massive rebellion from Nyakach voters where Mr Owili comes from
ODM party leader Raila Odinga personally plotted the political downfall of Hon. Aluoch Olago to create room for his sister Ruth Odinga, The Weekly Vision can reveal. According to sources, Ruth Odinga initially wished to the running mate to Kisumu county governor Prof. Anynag’ Nyong’o but intelligence reports indicated that if Nyong’o dropped his deputy Owili then there will be a massive rebellion from Nyakach voters where Mr Owili comes from.
The plot to have Ruth Odinga deputize Prof. Anynag’ Nyongo and later succeed him as governor was then shelved. It was at this point that a new scheme was hatched to lock out Mr Olago. However, Ruth who is a former DG to former governor Jack Ranguma is now eyeing the governorship in 2027. She felt that going for MPs seat then held by Hon. Aluoch Olago would not have given her an upper hand in 2027, she, therefore, opted for the Women Reps seat.
During many meetings held to break the impasse, it was finally agreed that the then Kisumu Women Rep Rozhaa Buyu should go for the Kisumu West constituency seat then held by Hon. Olago to create room for Ruth to run for the Women’s Rep position. Those behind the scheme argued that since Buyu had contested in 2013 and 2017 against Hon. Olago, that she was the best candidate for ODM. The deal was sealed and ODM hit the ground running.
Olago who was to defend his seat on the ODM ticket got wind of the plot and defected from Ford-Kenya to MDG to avoid humiliation in ODM nominations. He however lost to Buyu who garnered 39,658 votes against Olago’s 19,045 votes. Olago has served the constituency for 15 years and was on the verge of defending his seat for the fourth time as an MDG candidate.
Olago later joined other Luo politicians like former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, former Senator Fred Outa, and Ugenya MP David Ochieng among others to declare their support for President William Ruto’s government. Sources say Olago is one of the Luo politicians Ruto could reward with state corporation jobs in an attempt to clip Raila’s political wing in the region.
