Busia County Senator Okiya Omutata’s political vehicle, the National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) party is facing sharp divisions within its top ranks. It’s now emerging that the party, which was seen by many in Busia as a great abode for many aspiring candidates, has been entangled with so much infighting and divisions among its top officials, a source told The Weekly Vision.

The infighting has irked the party’s top financier Mr Fred Munuku who resides in the US, forcing him to intervene. It’s believed that some top members of the party started misusing their positions by arbitrarily withdrawing funds from the party bank account without the knowledge of Mr Munuku.

It’s alleged that the Secretary-General and the acting Chairman have already withdrawn huge amounts of money from the party’s bank account forcing Mr Munuku to intervene and halt any further withdrawals. One of the top officials is also alleged to have misused his position by nominating his girlfriend to the Busia County Assembly, a clear case of conflict of interest.

The two party officials have allegedly become so arrogant to the extent of soiling the party’s name, even physically attacking a resident of Nambale town called Chris Butsunzu, whose only offence was to correctly claim that the party was in the wrong hands. They even had the courage of tying him up as they escorted him to nearby police.

The financier has vowed to take them head-on as he seeks to reclaim back the party and put it in the right hands. He is said to have called Senator Okiya Omutata who is still away in Juba promising to meet him once he lands back in the country to look for ways of restoring the image of the party.
