Nairobi City County governor Johnson Sakaja appears to have fallen out with the top Kenya Kwanza leadership over his perceived close links with Azimio leadership. A source at City Hall told The Weekly Vision that governor Sakaja had initially been put under pressure by powerful forces from State House who had forwarded names of individuals they wanted to be named in his cabinet, but he declined.

Reports indicate that State House had proposed several names but governor Sakaja only considered one name from the list, Charles Kerich. After naming the cabinet, the Kenya Kwaza leadership accused the governor of incorporating opposition supporters in his administration but the governor is said to have told them off, saying that Nairobi belongs to all irrespective of their political affiliation. The governor has since been banned from visiting the State House.

Another name that sent cold shivers down the spine of Kenya Kwanza is that of Larry Wambua who was nominated to the position of Advisor on Finance and Economic Planning. Wambua is a close Kalonzo Musyoka ally.  Last week, Sakaja nominated 33 Chief Officers and again, there is a hue and cry that the list is made up of perceived Azimio supporters while Kenya Kwanza has not benefited from the appointments.

Governor Sakaja is said to have left out key men and women who did duty for Kenya Kwanza during the campaigns.  Notable names that missed out include that of ANC’s presidential campaign strategist Lynette Nyangweso, former UDA Dagoretti North aspirant Gabriel Chapia and AFC Leopards’ former Secretary General Oscar Igaida. Out of the 33 Chief Officers, the governor gave 7 slots to the Luo community.

There have been whispers that governor Sakaja has a soft spot for Azimio to protect his governorship considering that Azimio MCAs are the majority in the county assembly.
