Governor George Natembeya on Friday warned against the collaborative behaviour to defraud the taxpayer.  Speaking at Town Hall when he received the Edward Ouko-led Pending Bills and Staff Audit Report; the Governor said it was disheartening that the devolved unit had in the past 10 years been run as a criminal enterprise.

The Governor said it was unfortunate that 20 companies owned by wheeler dealers punctured the taxpayers whose livelihoods have been ruined due to nonpayment of services rendered to the County Government.  ” Wapi Uungwana hapo wakati watu ishirini mabwenyenye wanachukuwa tenda zote na kuwaacha wafanyi biashara wadogo wakilia ? “, he asked in disbelief.

The County boss reiterated his commitment to settle all genuine pending bills, saying collaborators stand to be surcharged.  Natembeya said the government had lost millions of money due to corrupt individuals and systems during his predecessor ten – years reign and said those currently working in his administration must either ship up or ship out.

He told the County Public Service Board Chairman Peter Wamoto to the face” Time for protecting corrupt individuals who think and believe it’s not easy to sack them is over. The Head of the County Public Service Truphosa Amere reiterated her commitment to creating a modern County.  She made a clarion call to those working in the County Government to introspect their roles of commission and omission to help make Trans Nzoia better through embracing accountability.

County Public Service Board Chairman Peter Wamoto said what the Taskforce had outlined must be achieved on time.  Hospital Ward representative Eric Wekhomba hit out at the business empire collating around some powerful traders of Asian origin for doing “con business.
