President Ruto Has Reportedly Sidelined Mike Mbuvi Sonko Over A Secret MoU

But what could have caused this “access denied” message? Word has it that Mr Sonko was putting the president under a lot of pressure to actualize an MoU they allegedly signed before he dumped Azimio for Kenya Kwanza before the last elections in which he was promised one CS position, three PS, four Ambassadors, three CECs in Mombasa County, three Chief Officers in Mombasa County, two CECs in Nairobi County, and three Chief Officers in Mombasa County

The former Governor of Nairobi Mike Mbuvi Sonko is currently out in the political cold after being sidelined by President William Ruto’s inner circle, sources say. Sources say that Sonko has even been barred from meeting the President or attending any official events where the president is present.

Keen political observers may have noticed that Mr Sonko has been absent from the president’s official events even in the Ukambani region where he traces family roots, like when the president visited Konza Technopolis in Machakos County, he was nowhere nearby. Many people wondered why a man perceived to command a huge following in Ukambani, was denied access to the function. The event in Machakos was a clear indication that all was not well between Mr. Sonko and President Ruto.

In July, when the President made a five-day tour of the coast region, people expected Mr. Sonko to accompany him, he is said to enjoy a considerable following in the area having contested the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in the last elections, but he was nowhere to be seen. It should be recalled that immediately after President Ruto took over, Sonko used to accompany him on most official functions and could even address the gatherings. That is now history, leaving analysts to speculate on what could have transpired between the two former political allies.

But what could have caused this “access denied” message? Word has it that Mr. Sonko was putting the president under a lot of pressure to actualize an MoU they allegedly signed before he dumped Azimio for Kenya Kwanza before the last elections in which he was promised one CS position, three PS, four Ambassadors, three CECs in Mombasa County, three Chief Officers in Mombasa County, two CECs in Nairobi County, and three Chief Officers in Mombasa County.

According to sources, none of the promises have so far been fulfilled, and that could be the reason why he has been denied access to the president. Being a cunning politician, Sonko has also made a move that has left Kenyans wondering what he could be up to.

According to sources, Sonko is said to have met former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Embakasi West MP Babau Owino in a well-orchestrated meeting that was intended to convey a warning to the president and his handlers in Kenya Kwanza.

Sources now claim that Sonko is contemplating a return to Nairobi County politics in 2027 as governor if his appeal at the East African Court of Appeal succeeds. As things stand now, he cannot hold any public office following his impeachment as Nairobi governor.

Regarding the elections in 2027, the reality is that political realignments have already started, and Sonko’s meeting with Babu and Joho may just be one of them. Analysts say that he is most likely to rejoin Azimio after he got wind that Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka is guaranteed to fly the Azimio flag in 2027.

Analysts say Sonko’s support in Nairobi cuts across political party affiliation, religious affiliation, and ethnic lines, as was witnessed in the 2017 elections. According to sources, if Kalonzo is nominated as the Azimio flag bearer in 2027, Sonko would be a part of his campaign team to help organize and finance his campaigns. Tycoons from Ukambani are reportedly already planning ways to pull money for Kalonzo’s second run for the presidency.
