Activists have petitioned the police to arrest kin to the personal assistant of a principal secretary in the current administration over an allegation of assault against his house help. The activists claim the PA assisted his kin in carrying out the vicious attack against the lady.
The activists who addressed the press at the Jeevanjee Gardens in Nairobi yesterday said that the alleged incident against the housekeeper, Mirriam Atieno Akello, took place on Saturday last week within the Kilimani area. The incident was booked at the Kilimani police station under occurrence book (OB) number 38/28/5/2024.
“On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Mirriam Atieno Akello was assaulted by her employer`s relatives, who caused trauma and body harm to her. He also confiscated her mobile phone,” said activist Marion Njoroge, adding that the assault and the confiscation of Akello`s mobile phone were in contravention of her fundamental rights and amounted to unreasonable seizure of her property.
The activists said that Akello took all the necessary measures to report the matter to the police for the perpetrators to face justice but are now perturbed at the slow pace the matter was taking. They also called for speedy intervention by other relevant agencies in the country, including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
When he was contacted through his phone, Kilimani OCPD Moss Ndhiwa said that he had been away but had instructed one of his officers to speed up investigations regarding the matter before an arrest is made. “I was away and came back today, but as long as the incident was reported here and there’s an OB number, we will speed up with the investigations, “added Ndhiwa.
