EACC Nabs Kakamega County Official Over Ksh 615 Million in Suspected Illicit Assets

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested John Koveti Lumula, the Head of Cleaning Services at Kakamega County Government, as part of efforts to recover over Ksh 615 million in suspected corruptly acquired assets. Among these assets is a private school valued at Ksh 200 million.
Lumula was one of several public officials whose homes and offices were raided by EACC officials last week, in what the Commission described as an intensified crackdown on unexplained wealth linked to the theft of public funds.

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed that Lumula’s arrest and the search of his properties are part of an ongoing investigation into suspected proceeds of corruption. The investigation began after the Commission received complaints regarding Lumula’s accumulation of unexplained wealth.

The Commission suspects Lumula amassed millions through kickbacks from suppliers and contractors during his previous role in the Procurement Department before he was transferred to his current position.
Among Lumula’s suspected illicit assets is West Bridge Elite School in Eregi, worth Ksh 200 million, which is run by his spouse Roseline Khadambi Khovoshi. Other properties include several hotels such as Lexas Restaurant, Yolo Lounge and Grill, and Caravan Palace Hotel.

Additionally, he owns two residential buildings in Shijiko, South Ikolomani, six high-end vehicles, and various prime parcels of land across the country, yet to be valued. Following his arrest, Lumula was taken to EACC’s Bungoma Regional Offices to record a statement.
