More than thirty High Court judges have been transferred in the latest changes announced by the Judiciary. Chief Justice Martha Koome revealed the transfers through a statement issued by the Principal Judge of the High Court, Justice Eric Ogola.
“This is to bring to your notice that Chief Justice and the President of the Supreme Court Martha Koome has effected transfers of the various judges of the High Court. The transfers are done in accordance with the Transfer Policy of the High Court,” read the statement signed by Justice Ogola.
Among the notable changes, Justice Alfred Mabeya, formerly the Presiding Judge of the Milimani High Court Commercial and Tax Division, has been transferred to Kisumu High Court as the Presiding Judge. Kisumu High Court Presiding Judge Roslyn Aburili will now serve as the Presiding Judge of the Judicial Review Division at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
Justice Edward Muriithi, who was the Presiding Judge at Meru High Court, has been moved to Kerugoya in the same capacity, while Murang’a High Court Judge Cecilia Githua has been elevated to Presiding Judge at her current station.
Lady Justice Christine Meoli has been transferred from the Civil Division in Nairobi to Kajiado as Presiding Judge, while Lady Justice Roselyne Korir will now serve as the Presiding Judge in Chuka, having moved from her previous post in Bomet.
The changes also see Lady Justice Stella Mutuku transferred to Nairobi to head the Civil Division at Milimani Law Courts from her role as the Presiding Judge at Kajiado High Court. Lady Justice Esther Maina, formerly in charge of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division in Nairobi, has been reassigned to Machakos as the Presiding Judge.
Other judges affected include Justice Charles Kariuki, who moves from Nyandarua to Narok as Presiding Judge, and Justice Francis Gikonyo, who has been reassigned from Narok to head the Commercial Division in Nairobi. Justice Lilian Mutende will now preside over Nyahururu High Court, having previously served as the head of the Criminal Division at Milimani.
Justice Kiarie W. Kiarie is moving from Homa Bay to Nyandarua as Presiding Judge, while Justice Jairus Ngaah has been reassigned from the Judicial Review Division in Nairobi to the Mombasa High Court as Presiding Judge.
Other notable transfers include Justice Robert Limo, who moves from Kitui to Kitale as Presiding Judge, and Justice Lucy Njuguna, who leaves Embu for Nairobi to head the Anti-Corruption Division. Justice Mugure Thande, who was stationed in Malindi, has been elevated to the role of Presiding Judge at the same station.
Several other judges have also been transferred, including Justice Lucy Gitari from Chuka to Kitui, Justice Richard Mwongo from Kerugoya to Embu, Justice Olga Sewe from Mombasa to Homa Bay, and Justice James Wakiaga from Murang’a to Nairobi’s Makadara Criminal Division.
The judges are expected to report to their new stations starting January 2025. The Judiciary noted that the transfers are in line with its policies aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery across the country.
