Columbia Africa Health Limited, a US-based investment firm, has established a Ksh200 million outpatient hospital in Ruiru, Kiambu County, targeting middle-class residents.
The new facility, located at the Nord Mall in Ruiru Township, is the company’s third outpatient centre in Kenya and its first outside Nairobi. Columbia Africa is part of Columbia Pacific Management, which has previously invested in China, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, and Indonesia before setting up operations in Kenya in 2016.
The company already operates two outpatient centres in Lavington and Parklands, Nairobi, and plans to continue expanding both within and beyond the city.
Speaking at the launch in Ruiru, Columbia Africa’s Medical Advisor, Dr John Tole, stated that the new outpatient facility would provide consultation, family medicine, mother and child care, dental, and optical services.
Dr Tole emphasised their commitment to bringing Columbia Africa’s globally recognised healthcare model directly to Ruiru residents, ensuring patients receive expert-driven and compassionate care. The facility is designed as a one-stop centre for comprehensive outpatient services, eliminating the need for multiple referrals or repeated hospital visits.
“We are committed to making high-quality healthcare both accessible and affordable, ensuring families in this area receive the best possible treatment close to home. Patients will have access to expert medical consultations across key specialties, including paediatrics, family medicine, dermatology, and internal medicine,” Dr Tole said.
He added, “Diagnostic services such as general radiology, mammography, ultrasound, a modern laboratory, and non-invasive cardiology assessments are all available under one roof.”
The facility has partnered with leading insurance providers to offer services with minimal out-of-pocket costs, enhancing access to healthcare services for the local community.
Family Physician and Clinical Head at Columbia Africa, Dr Linda Thorpe, noted that by offering affordable wellness programmes and patient-friendly policies, the hospital aims to encourage people to prioritise their health before issues become critical.
“This hospital will be a relief to the area’s growing middle class, who are constantly seeking modern yet affordable healthcare,” said Dr Thorpe.
