Two prominent Nairobi-based law firms are named in a whistleblower report alleging serious misconduct by senior officials at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The report, obtained by The Weekly Vision, claims that some EACC directors may have collaborated with these firms to obstruct investigations into high-profile corruption cases.
The whistleblower alleges that the two law firms acted as intermediaries to shield influential individuals from legal accountability. In some cases, these firms allegedly received illicit payments from companies awarded contracts for work at Integrity Centre, the EACC’s headquarters.
One law firm is linked to a former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner, now a senior official in the current administration. This firm allegedly acted on behalf of a sitting governor, helping to avoid prosecution. Frustrated by the EACC’s perceived inaction, residents of the affected county, backed by several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), are considering impeachment proceedings against the governor.
The whistleblower alleges that a senior EACC official routinely advises suspects under investigation to retain this firm, with which they have a close working relationship, possibly to suppress cases in exchange for bribes.
The second law firm, led by a prominent Moi-era advocate from the Rift Valley, is described in the report as a major player. It allegedly handled large kickbacks for EACC officials. The report specifically cites the controversial 2018 acquisition of Integrity Centre for Ksh1.5 billion, claiming funds were distributed to commissioners, senior directors, officials from the Attorney General’s Office, and the National Land Commission. Some of those named are currently facing corruption-related charges in court.
These allegations, from an EACC insider, have heightened public concern over the commission’s credibility and resolve to fight corruption, especially involving powerful individuals.
