How Technical University Paid Employees On Paid Leave Extra Salaries

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) is on the spot over some irregular payment of Ksh. 11,782,265 to two employees. Investigations revealed that the employees continued to draw monthly salaries and other benefits in full during the entire period they were on unpaid leave.

Sources say, those responsible for this irregular payment had cut a deal with the two employees and that the Ksh. 11,782,265 was shared amongst the staff in the payroll and accounts departments.

Further, Ksh.5, 499,612 was also paid irregularly to 14 employees of the University who were on full salary, house allowance and commuter allowance while on Study leave outside the country on varying dates.

This is contrary to Sub-Section 6.1d of Human Resource Manual which stipulates the amount to be paid as 80% of the basic salary for those studying outside the country.
