Speaking in Funyula, Busia County, where he commissioned new classrooms and launched a solar-powered water project serving more than 3,000 households, Mr Mudavadi alleged that Mr Gachagua used his visit abroad to promote tribalism among Kenyans in the Diaspora, describing the conduct as “unpatriotic and unacceptable”.
“Look at a scenario where Rigathi Gachagua, who has served as Deputy President under president William Ruto, goes abroad and champions tribalism until the people in the Diaspora tell him to shun it. As Kenyans, our goal is to preach peace across our region,” Mr Mudavadi said.
The PCS further dismissed as “baseless and misleading” claims by Mr Gachagua that the Kenyan government was working in conjunction with the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. Citing past attacks in Garissa, Dusit D2, and other parts of the country, Mr Mudavadi insisted the government remained firmly committed to combating terrorism.
“How can a government work with armed groups determined to kill its people and destabilise the nation?” he posed, questioning why a former Deputy President and member of the National Security Council would peddle such allegations.
Mr Mudavadi accused Mr Gachagua of misleading the Diaspora and acting like “a home guard” by asking the US government to investigate Kenya, saying such behaviour undermined national unity. “You are a Kenyan. Be patriotic, work for your people, speak for your people, and defend your country. That is what true patriotism calls for,” he declared.
The PCS urged the opposition to respect matters of national security and avoid using them as platforms for political theatre or vendetta, warning that such actions could jeopardise the country’s stability. He called on Kenyans to unite behind the broad-based government led by President William Ruto in collaboration with ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying their political truce after years of rivalry was a powerful example of putting the nation first. “President Ruto, Raila, and we in the leadership are determined to unite the country. We must shun those planting seeds of discord and tribalism,” Mr Mudavadi said.
The PCS also praised former Vice President Moody Awori, who attended the Busia event, for his legacy in championing education and community service. On development matters, Mr Mudavadi said the newly launched water project would provide clean water to thousands of households and reduce electricity bills through the use of solar power.
“Clean water leads to healthy living, while dirty water brings disease. This project will also cut energy costs, ensuring the community enjoys long-term benefits,” he noted. Turning back to politics, Mr Mudavadi urged residents to embrace the unity symbolised by the Ruto, Raila alliance, stressing that divisive politics must be abandoned for the sake of national progress. “We are united so that we can deliver for the people of Kenya. Let us be nationals,” he concluded.
