TSC Announces Major Teacher Recruitment and Promotion Drive

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched one of its largest staffing initiatives, advertising a total of 54,016 teaching vacancies. This comprises 34,016 promotion opportunities for serving teachers and 20,000 new permanent and pensionable posts for post-primary teachers in Junior Schools.

The exercise aims to tackle staffing shortages, facilitate career progression, and bolster the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum across junior secondary schools.

Serving teachers and curriculum support officers can apply for advancement across 30 job grades, ranging from Senior Teacher II to Chief Principal. Notable allocations include: Senior Teacher II: 13,490 positions, Senior Master IV: 5,956 positions and Senior Teacher I: 4,210 positions

Applications must be submitted online through the TSC portal (teachersonline.go.ke) by midnight on Monday, 10 August 2026. Manual submissions will not be accepted.Junior School Teaching Posts (20,000 positions). The commission is recruiting 20,000 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms to support CBE delivery.

The application window opens on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, and closes at midnight on Monday, 31 August 2026. Candidates require at least a Diploma in Education, a KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) with C+ in two teaching subjects, and must be registered with the TSC.
