Busia County Government Rolls Out Census Exercise To Determine Exact Number Of Staff On Its Payroll

The Busia County government embarked on an eight-day staff census exercise yesterday that will cover the whole county. The chairman of the task force Mr Michael Aringo Onyura said that the exercise was meant to confirm the accuracy of the staff’s record for easier planning; he spoke to members of the press in Busia town.

The exercise will take two days at the county headquarters before being rolled out to the rest of the county. After the exercise, the task force will then go through the collected data to get a clear number of the workforce. “We shall then look at all the biometrics so that in future we can curb any form of impersonation and any other malpractice that can come about,” Mr Onyura said.

The census will also help scrutinize every academic paper for each worker before confirming their status and those suspected not to be genuine will be referred to the relevant colleges or Universities that purportedly issued them.  The report is supposed to be ready one week after the completion of the census before being handed to the executive. The task force according to the availed records is supposed to reach not more than 4,500 workers including the casuals.
