During the run-up to the last general elections, he declared support for Azimio’s Presidential candidate and went public that all teachers were behind Raila Odinga. The declaration and announcement did not go down well with a majority of teachers and KNUT officials most of whom had kept their political affiliation as their top secret. Mr Oyuu hails from Rarieda Sub-County in Siaya County, he is a close Raila ally and that is why he pushed KNUT officials to back him
The Secretary General of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Mr Collins Oyuu is a man under siege, The Weekly Vision can authoritatively reveal. Sources at KNUT House say that all is not well there and that rebellion against Mr Oyuu is quickly taking shape.
According to well-placed sources, Mr Oyuu has increasingly lost the trust and confidence of the majority of teachers in the country. A move is said to have been hatched to kick him out of the giant union leadership.
During the run-up to the last general elections, he declared support for Azimio’s Presidential candidate and went public that all teachers were behind Raila Odinga. The declaration and announcement did not go down well with a majority of teachers and KNUT officials most of whom had kept their political affiliation as their top secret. Mr Oyuu hails from Rarieda Sub-County in Siaya County, he is a close Raila ally and that is why he pushed KNUT officials to back Raila Odinga.
Sources now say that the UDA administration is working on means and ways of kicking him out and replacing him with a more loyal SG. According to the KNUT constitution, delegates wield the power and authority to pass a vote of no confidence against him and proceed to elect a new SG.
Going by the composition of the branches and considering the influence and promises the current administration has given to teachers, lobbying delegates to kick out Oyuu is very possible just the same way his predecessor Wilson Sossion was kicked out because the Kieleweke wing of Jubilee party did not like him.
Sources say two names are being pushed to replace Mr Oyuu. There are those pushing for Mr Oyuu’s deputy Hesbon Otieno and others are for John Wesonga who is the 2nd vice chairman. There are however those saying that the post of SG has been in Nyanza for a period and that it is high time another region is given the opportunity at the helm of KNUT.
