It’s Over Between Me And Raila Odinga -Wycliffe Oparanya

During the the last elections held in August, Mr Oparanya spearheaded the Azimio Western Kenya vote drive gaining crucial elective seats in the counties of Kakamega, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia and Busia. Since then, he now accuses the top leadership of the Azimio coalition of breaking the Luhya community’s trust by not factoring their continuous support for Raila into the distribution of post-election positions

Former Kakamega county governor Wycliffe Oparanya now says he wants nothing to do with Azimio One Kenya Party leader Raila Odinga. He claims his main focus now will be on bringing the Luhya community together. Oparanya says he will invest most of his time towards the unification of his community.

“I am offering myself now to lead the unity drive of our people. I am done with Raila and even if he bad-mouths me, God forbid, he knows, he will not be forgiven,” Oparanya said. According to Mr Oparanya, the Luhya community had backed Raila in five consecutive elections, but they had done so in vain. He said that it was time for them to forge a new political course so that they could hold office after 2027.

He listed minority seats in the National Assembly, Senate, and the East Africa Legislative Assembly as instances where his community was snubbed. Principal Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi seemed to share the same intent with the former Kakamega governor after he held a meeting with members of the national assembly and senators from the Western region on how to forge unity in the region.

“I had a fruitful consultative breakfast meeting with Parliamentarians from the Western Region today. We discussed and agreed on the unity of purpose by leaders, and the sharing of national resources for the region’s social-economy development. The progress of our country will be accelerated when leaders unite, focus, and advocate for the interests of the people,” the Principal Cabinet secretary said on his Twitter handle.
