It was widely expected that Mr Muthama could have landed a ministerial position but President Ruto preferred former Governor Alfred Mutua over him. Both are from Machakos County. Muthama was again said to have had an eye for the position of Principal Secretary and again this did not come to pass as his name was missing from the list. Sources say all might not be well between the two close buddies because even politically, Muthama is more senior to Alfred Mutua and even in terms of political influence, Muthama’s political power cuts across the Ukambani region as opposed to Mutua whose political influence is not known outside the borders of Machakos county
United Democratic Alliance National Chairman Johnson Muthama could soon be named a member of the powerful and lucrative position of member of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), sources told The Weekly Vision. Mr Muthama was a close ally of President William Ruto but many political commentators have been wondering if there was a fallout between him and Ruto.

When Parliament released the names of eight shortlisted candidates for the position of a male member of the PSC, it came as a surprise with Muthama’s name made it on the final list. Also on the list are former Kisii Governor James Ongwae and Kiminini Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalwa. Other shortlisted candidates included former Aldai MP Cornelly Serem, former Limuru MP Peter Mungai, former Matungu MP David Were, former Kwale County Assembly speaker Sammy Nyamawi Ruwa and John Aruma Ekale.
Sources say President Ruto and Kenya Kwanza’s top brass are divided between Mr Muthama and Chris Wamalwa. Wamalwa unsuccessfully ran for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race and lost. He has also been left in the political cold. Mr Ongwae who decamped from Azimio to Kenya Kwanza after the elections could also be a surprise choice for Ruto. Sources say the Abagusii community has been crying foul over non-inclusion in top positions in the Ruto government. President Ruto has also been toying with the idea of offering the position to Mr Ongwae to appease the Abagusii community.
