Mombasa County Assembly Staff Cry Foul Over Statutory Deductions

Employees of the Mombasa County Assembly are up in arms against the assembly Clerk Salim Mwalimu Juma over his failure to remit statutory deduction to relevant bodies. Workers claim that the office of the clerk has been deducting but not remitting their contributions to NSSF.

They claim that between the years 2020 and 2021, a total of Ksh. 988,800 was not remitted to NSSF. Ksh. 494,400 and Ksh. 494,400 were in respect of the employees’ deductions and employer contributions, respectively. Another Ksh. 5,965,046 was deducted and not remitted to PAYE, NHIF, NITA Levy, and Income Tax on Gratuity) and another Ksh. 54,018,690 unremitted to staff pension contributions (NSSF, LAPTRUST). The staffs are now demanding that the office of the clerk come out and give statements on deductions and remittances of statutory deductions.
