Politically speaking, Bondo MP Dr Gideon Ochanda is a man under siege after technically decamping from ODM to work with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza. Sources have however told The Weekly Vision that despite him being seen as a traitor, Dr Ochanda’s political star could continue shining despite attempts by ODM to dim it ahead of the 2027 elections.
The source reveals that Dr Ochanda has always won the Bondo constituency seat not because of the dominance of the ODM party in the region but because of his agenda on matters of education. His bursary scheme programme has seen parents across the constituency give him votes without a second thought.
Initially, Dr Ochanda had allocated all students in day schools a yearly bursary of Ksh. 6,000 each. This has always given him an edge over his competitors. This year, the MP has gone out of his way to offer to pay school fees for all form four students in day schools to the tune of Ksh. 10,000 per student.
This announcement has been received with jubilation by not only parents with form four students in day schools but by the majority of the constituents. Last week, a section of Bondo residents upon receiving the good news vowed to re-elect him in 2027 whether he runs on whatever party ticket for the sake of their children’s education.
