The Wiper Party has been rocked by deep divisions in recent weeks, with its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, sharpening his political sword against two rebellious governors – Wavinya Ndeti and Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Mr Kalonzo Musyoka is currently busy putting his house in order and has even warned a section of party members who are opposed to his ideas to pack and leave. Mr Kalonzo, aware that he could be a possible heir apparent to ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2027 presidential elections should Azimio hold together, is not entertaining any opposition from within his party, sources told The Weekly Vision.

The Wiper party leader has been under pressure from his inner circle and political financiers to go for the top seat in 2027. Mr Kalonzo Musyoka is known in many circles as a political diplomat but has now sharpened his political sword, daring dissenting voices to stop wrecking the Wiper boat from within. Already the party has marked some MPs and Governors alleged to have defied his directives, the two rebel governors are already on the chopping board and plans are underway to clip their political wings.

Mr Kalonzo Musyoka is said to have told his inner circle that he regrets campaigning and supporting Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and her Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Jr. The two have shown open rebellion against their party leader and analysts now say it is just a matter of time before they are declared persona non grata in Wiper. Sources within the Wiper party revealed to our writer how the two governors have openly defied their party leader and are supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration and working with President William Ruto.

Governors Wavinya Ndeti and Mutula Jr. were once strong allies of Kalonzo Musyoka; one wonders where the rain started beating them. Insiders, however, claim that the two rebel governors are aware that Kalonzo might not support them in 2027 hence the need to build rapport with President Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza brigade. Wavinya Ndeti is said to have fallen out with Mr Musyoka during the run-up to the last general elections when Kalonzo, sources say, preferred Mr Nzioka Waita as a candidate, he had resigned from a top-notch job at State House.

Sources say then President Uhuru Kenyatta requested Kalonzo Musyoka to give Mr Waita a direct Wiper party ticket however, the Wiper constitution did not have such a provision. At one time, Kalonzo Musyoka suggested that they should face each other during the party’s primaries but Wavinya threatened to decamp from the party if the plan was to force Waita on the electorate.

It was later secretly agreed that Waita would defect to Chama Cha Uzalendo and run against Wavinya. Although Kalonzo appeared to support Wavinya during the campaigns, his heart was with Waita. When elections were finally held Ndeti garnered 226, 609 votes in a hotly contested seat, while her closest contender, Nzioka Waita (CCU) managed 129, 181 votes. The small margin clearly explains why Wavinya rightfully claimed that she was not Kalono’s preferred candidate. Upon assuming office, Wavinya told those who cared to listen that she was ready to work with President Ruto, a statement Kalonzo and his inner circle did not take lightly. It is against such outbursts that Kalonzo is said to have shifted his full support to Waita as he prepares him for 2027.

In neighbouring Makueni County, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has also fallen out with Kalonzo. Mutula was a well-known ally of Kalonzo Musyoka, but they fell out during the election of the county’s assembly speaker.

Kalonzo is said to have demanded that Prof. Philip Kaloki be elected Speaker after he lost the Nairobi gubernatorial race, where he was Polycarp Igathe’s running mate. The move was to offer him a soft landing. Mutula Jr, on the other hand, read mischief and claimed that having Kaloki as Speaker would give him an undue advantage come 2027. He argued Kaloki would use his position to play politics, gain political ground, and challenge him in 2027.

It is against such fears that while Kalonzo lobbied MCAs to vote for Kaloki, Mutula is said to have spent millions lobbying MCAs to vote for Kaloki’s opponent, Douglas Mbilu, a former Speaker who finally carried the day after he garnered 26 out of the 47 votes cast. Kalogi received 21 votes. Following the defeat, Kalonzo told his allies that Mutula Jr whom he groomed from legal practice to replace his late father was now defying his directives. Kalonzo is said to have vowed to teach him a political lesson come 2027, his words spread like bushfire in Makueni and Mutula was advised to rethink his political stand and relationship with Kalonzo.
