Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka

Last week, Senator Onyonka lobbied MPs from the larger Kitutu region at Abagetutu Leaders Forum where he termed the ongoing staff transfers as vindictive, lacking merit and ill informed. According to the Senator, the governor has been transferring county staff he perceives to be loyal to either him or former Governor James Ongwae without consultation.  In a quick rejoinder, governor Arati told off Mr Onyonka and the MPs terming their move as irrelevant and that attempts to impeach him will never see the light of the day. He boasted of having almost all MCA’s behind him.

Governor Arati further said that there is no witch hunt and termed Onyonka’s outbursts as baseless arguments. Sources say the Onyonka-Arati political duel began when the governor undertook massive transfers of doctors, most of them specialists, to far-flung health facilities within the county. Onyonka termed the transfers an intellectual and skill wastage. We have discovered that the titanic battle between the two political heavyweights in Abagusii politics has roped in some MCAs who have come out to support Arati terming Onyonka’s allegations as reckless and demeaning of his senate office.
