Residents of Langata Dam Estate and Freedom Heights in Nairobi staged a protest on Saturday night over the excessive noise levels from the nearby Paris Langata Club, located about 500 meters across the road. Chanting “Hutalali, Tumechoka” (“We can’t sleep, we’re tired”), the residents demonstrated until midnight, expressing their frustration with the club’s loud music.
The residents claim they have repeatedly asked the club to either lower the volume or install soundproofing, but their pleas have been ignored by the management. Frustrated by the lack of action, they camped outside the club to voice their grievances.
Nairobi County environment officers, led by Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosoria, arrived at the scene to address the issue. However, a brief commotion occurred when aggressive bouncers from the club tried to block Mosoria and his team from entering.
According to an eyewitness, the situation escalated when one of the bouncers assaulted both residents and county officers with a rungu (club) as they attempted to gain access to the premises. Police officers from Langata Police Station were called to the scene, eventually restoring order.
