Government Seeks Sh3 Billion to Establish Additional Administrative Units

Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo has announced that the government is actively seeking funds to create, gazette, and establish additional administrative units across the country. Dr Omollo revealed that up to Sh3 billion is required to address public demands for more devolved units to bring services closer to the people. However, he acknowledged that the state has limited funds.

“I know you want me to grant your wishes—good. But while we recognise your needs, we may not be able to address them all immediately due to financial constraints. However, we shall do our best to act where resources allow,” said Omollo. This initiative follows urgent appeals from Migori leaders, including Governor Ochillo Ayacko and MPs Mathias Robi and Marwa Kitayama, who have emphasised the need to enhance local governance by increasing the number of administrative units.

Governor Ayacko and other local leaders have raised concerns that the current administrative structures are inadequate in bringing essential services and governance closer to the citizens. “By expanding these units, we can decentralise power more effectively and improve service delivery to communities,” said Ayacko.

Dr Omollo acknowledged these concerns and reiterated the government’s commitment to decentralisation, stressing that the creation of more administrative units will empower local populations and improve access to resources and services. He assured stakeholders that securing funds for this initiative is a priority, to implement these developments promptly.

During a development tour in Kuria West, Dr Omollo, accompanied by area MP Robi, Kuria East MP Kitayama, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, and several other national and county leaders, addressed the pressing need for additional administrative units.

He highlighted that there are numerous pending requests for the creation of new units across all 47 counties, aimed at improving service delivery to citizens. “Our plan, once we secure sufficient resources, is to establish more administrative units,” said the PS.

The government remains focused on strengthening governance structures and improving access to essential services for local communities. Dr Omollo reaffirmed that securing funds for this initiative is a priority, reflecting the government’s commitment to empowering citizens and ensuring their needs are met effectively.
