Kenya has made significant strides in digitizing public services, with over 22,000 services now accessible online. The Ministry of ICT plans to integrate the remaining 2,412 services to further enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for citizens. The e-Citizen Directorate and the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy report that over 13.5 million users are registered on the e-Citizen platform.
The Governance and Public Administration (GPA) Subcommittee of the National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) confirmed that efforts to fully digitize government operations are on track, aiming to improve service delivery and citizen engagement.
The Office of the Attorney General, in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT, is developing a Legal Case Management System to streamline litigation processes and enable real-time case tracking for government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The GPA, co-chaired by Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo and Parliamentary Affairs Principal Secretary Dr Aurelia Rono, announced that the Interior Ministry is procuring 3,000 additional vehicles to enhance logistical capabilities in security and administrative services under the Government Vehicle Leasing Programme.
“These vehicles will be allocated to the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to modernize and improve operational efficiency,” said PS Omollo.
The State Department for Internal Security is exploring the introduction of electric motorcycles for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs to enhance accessibility and administrative presence at the grassroots level. The GPA Subcommittee, tasked with improving governance, resolving policy bottlenecks, and accelerating service delivery, revealed plans to relocate prisons in Kitale, Kisii, and Homa Bay from urban centres to alternative government lands, facilitating the Affordable Housing Project.
“This relocation is a strategic measure to decongest correctional institutions and foster a rehabilitative, rights-based environment,” the subcommittee stated.
