Investigations by The Weekly Vision now reveal that some top women politicians allied to the UDA party are plotting on how to take control of MYO with the support of government machinery. The current national official leaders are perceived to be sympathetic to the former regime
The national chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation Mrs Rahab Mwikali is facing serious rebellion from those opposed to her leadership style from within and outside of the organization. Her opponents are said to be burning the midnight oil to oust her from the top office.
The disgruntled members are now appealing to the NGO board to order elections before they forcefully evict Mrs Mwikali from office. In the run-up to the last general elections, Mwikali is alleged to have been bankrolled by former president Uhuru Kenyatta to fight William Ruto using MYO.
Mwikali is accused of intimidating county coordinators and having them dislodged from their positions. They called on the county coordinators and other government officials to keep off the organisation’s affairs as they are being misled by Mwikali as she uses them to fight her real and imagined enemies.

But even as plans are underway to push her team out of office, sources divulged that former Kitui county governor Charity Ngilu, former Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Zipporah Kittony, and founder members Jane Kiano and Phoebe Asiyo are behind concerted efforts to have Mwikali hang on at the helm of the organization for their vested interests. To show how things are bad at Maendeleo House and for fear of being evicted from the office, Mwikali has put General Service Unit officers, most of who are from her Kamba community, to keep vigilance at her Maendeleo House offices, along Monrovia Street, despite the women organization having its security personnel stationed at the entrance of the building.
It is further claimed that the executive director, Ms Esabella is Mwikali’s niece while Mr Benjamin the finance director is her nephew. Reports indicate that former ministry of Public Service and Gender, cabinet secretary Margaret Kobia is the main stumbling block towards removing Mwikali at Maendeleo ya Wanawake House.
