Just hours after Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo revealed at a public rally attended by President William Ruto that he secretly supported his 2022 presidential bid; the governor is now under pressure to confess how he was used by outsiders to oust former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko from office.
Mr Guyo made the shocking revelation during a Sunday service at Isiolo Boys High School saying how he supported Ruto despite being a member of the Jubilee party, one of the affiliate parties of the opposition’s Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition.
Supporters of former governor Mike Sonko are now demanding that he should reveal how they plotted, fixed and executed his impeachment through the influence of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga. It’s worth noting that Sonko’s tribulations began when he fell out with Mr Guyo who was then the majority leader at the Nairobi City County Assembly.
Following the fallout, Guyo used his political influence and reached out to Uhuru Kenyatta who is said to have financed Sonko’s impeachment at the assembly and later at the Senate. Mr Guyo is alleged to have used the money to influence the MCAs from both Jubilee and ODM and ensured they had the majority to start the process of impeachment.
It is against the above that Sonko’s supporters are now demanding that he should come out clean and apologize to Sonko and reveal all that happened behind the scenes, who the financiers of the controversial impeachment motion. Following Sonko’s impeachment, he is not eligible to hold any public office after the Supreme Court hit the last nail on the coffin thereby ending Sonko’s political career prematurely.
Sonko has however moved to the East African Court of Justice and appealed but whether he will get justice to have his impeachment declared illegal, only time will tell.
